Bud Light has now changed its dating system. Beer being produced today is dated with pull dates, not born-on dates.
We apologize for our confusion, and we thank a good reader for enlightening us.
Our article originally published in this space--"Does Bud Light have a stale beer problem?"--was based on a flawed analysis. We had noted that Bud Light we'd found at retail was well past its pull date. These are dates printed on packaging beyond which the beer is no longer considered fresh. The system is used by the vast majority of beer brands, including Budweiser. We had assumed its stablemate, Bud Light, was using the same system. It was not. Bud light was still using "born on" dates showing the date the beer was brewed, so the packages we saw were in fact still fresh, not stale. Bud Light has now changed its dating system. Beer being produced today is dated with pull dates, not born-on dates. We apologize for our confusion, and we thank a good reader for enlightening us. Comments are closed.
